Outdoor Learning Lab
W.I.L.D. – Wilderness Innovation Learning Discovery
Nature comes alive in our Outdoor Learning Lab! A couple of years ago, volunteers were clearing blackberry bushes off our land and uncovered a large area complete with a year-round stream, oak shaded picnic area and shed… just PERFECT for the students to solve all kinds of real-life problems, improve their school campus, and enrich their learning. Our church and school combined forces and remodeled the shed into an outdoor learning center with an attached deck, built raised gardens, and planted blueberry bushes and fruit trees.
Through project based learning, our students plan to further develop the space by designing and building a chicken coop, creating a self-watering garden, establishing bee hives, and realizing other projects using natural resources.
It is our desire that through the development of this green space, we will create a school-wide culture that values the environment, and seeks to live a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.
